I found this cheap lamp at Tai Pan for $8. I thought it had a lot of potential for the nursery, so with a few supplies, and literally 45 minutes of spare time, I whipped up this beauty....
Supplies you'll need:
-acrylic paint
-sponge paint brush
-choice of 2 fabrics
-hot glue gun
-scissors
-fabric glue
-iron
First I painted my lamp base with a brown acrylic paint. It only took two coats, and while it was drying, I got started on the shade....
Begin my ironing your fabric (I just used a lightweight cotton) The size of your lamp shade will determine the amount of fabric needed. For mine, 1/2 yard was PLENTY! Start at one end and wrap the shade in the fabric.
Once it's wrapped all around I put a dab of fabric glue in the bottom corner to hold it together. (If using a thin fabric, don't worry about how you can see the overlapping of the fabric, the flowers will cover it later)
Trim off excess fabric
With the fabric glue, run a THIN layer around lamp shade and adhere remaining fabric.
Trim off excess fabric off top of lamp shade and glue under shade just as you did the bottom.
Flowers: There really are so many ways to make your fabric flowers, you may have your own way. I just started with strips of fabric, gathered it in the middle....
...and twist, twist, twist until all the fabric was used. I secured it with a sewing pin to hold it together in the back.
Optional: Add your own sparkles, buttons, pins, etc. to the flowers, and hot glue them onto the lamp shade. Ta Da! You're done!!
